I found out about this via Jon Clark via Beast via Twitter if that makes sense.
Court TV has a show called Masterminds. The show re-creates crimes and explains what happened with different cases. We have known for some time that there was an episode concerning the infamous Transy Book Heist. Unfortunately we were never able to watch it because the cable service on campus didn’t have the channel. (conspiracy? possibly…)
Long story short, watch this before it gets pulled down.

- I also like how they have like 2 shots of the actual Transy, both taken while driving. I’m guessing Transy said no for the reenactment to take place at the actual location. -

Lies. DPS arrested Spencer “with the help of the FBI” as I recall it being printed in the paper. Also, this crime wasn’t sexy enough to warrant the porno music to which it was shot.
Gotta go with Applegate on the Beckham thing. “There’s a famous soccer player named David BECKHAM, so he altered that name to come up with his alias, Walter Beckman.”

they stole the books when everyone was on xmas break and it seems everyone is still on campus from the video. Phil and applegate hit the nail on the head. seems like we could have made a better video.

This thing is sooo inaccurate…it makes Transy’s library seem like some ten story building.

I don’t see why they left a lot of key details. the show makes it sound like they caught these guys within days. does anyone remember when they were actually arrested?

It’s funny how they mentioned that Lipka’s dad liked to play the ponies (and wasn’t very good at it, apparently) but completely ignored the fact that he’s the head coach of the women’s soccer team at UK. I’ll bet if he were the head hockey coach, those Canadians who made the vid would have put it in there.

Did you know?
“One of the draws of Transylvania University is the special collections.” (They don’t tell you that on a tour.)
The tours are taken through the special collections of the library which need special access. (Must have been too busy to check that out on my tour.)

It has been at least a few months since it aired. This is mainly significant because this is the first time it has hit the internet. (I’ve been checking)

I suddenly don’t feel very safe about leaving my car in the Transy parking lot. If the cameras can’t be used by the FBI to identify people, then what is the point?

i know it aired on spring break last year (07)…
i knew about the story behind it, but i couldn’t stop watching it to see how they portrayed it. -

Yeah, I agree, when I give tours I wouldn’t mention the special collections because they told us not to. Granted I started doing those tours after this robbery, but still. But I do remember being woken up by people when the FBI came. That was flippin epic.
What kills me is that they got on the elevator. It’s 1 fucking flight and you’d get out of there so much faster if you did the stairs…. like ‘gate said, “Fail”

lol, nvm. I forgot that they went out the side door and not the front. The video was very misleading in that respect.

I would like to note that hamby is wrong because they did it on the last day of finals because Spencer came in late to my Sociology final that day, and somone one said, with spencer in the room, “Did you hear that someone robbed the library and taized the librarian”… spencer was the lookout from the second floor window of the beck center (as noted in vanity fair)…

I was roped into doing campus center training again. Dan and I conducted the campus tour and told the entire story of the heist, and let a couple of them watch the video afterwards.
It’s good to go for another 4 years at least.
