Snake Bread!

Friday, 23 April, 2010

The last night Mandy was visiting we had a short camp and at night we all made Japanese “Snake Bread.” Sahara-san and Keigo made the bread from scratch while the rest of us prepared the fire. Basically you find some sticks and have them cleaned. Take some olive oil and rub on the stick so the bread will not stick. Roll the fresh dough into a “snake” and wrap it around the stick. Cook over the fire just like marsh mellows or a hot dog. The bread is sweet and delicious fresh out of the fire. Even though it was freezing cold that night I believe we all had a great time cooking the bread and talking over the fire.

Japanese Baseball Experience

I know I have negelcted this space for a few weeks but I have some valid reasons. I was quite busy the weeks leading up to Mandy visiting and all consumed by the NCAA Basketball Tournament following UK to the Elite 8. Plus I have not had to many interesting things to write about but I have a few things ready to roll this week since Mandy has left for the United States.

Toward the end of her stay we went to the Nagoya Dome to watch a heated rivalry between the Chunichi Dragons and the Hanshin Tigers. Takuji, a great friend on mine, was with us at the game and went nuts the entire time. Imagine me at Rupp Arena watching UK play basketball, he was the equivalent but for Dragon Baseball. The Dragons are based out of Nagoya and all Japanese baseball teams have a sponsor which the team is named after. The game was over the four hour mark but saw tons of hits. The dragons were down 1-5 in the 3rd but staged a massive 5 run rally in the 5th. They held on for a 6-5 win.
This is my first baseball game outside the cozy confines of America and I expected something very similar, I could not have been more wrong. The atmosphere at a Japanese baseball game is totally different. Everyone has some kind of noise maker of some kind [its like the Japanese looked at the boom stick from the NBA and mimicked the idea] and everyone sings. I have fond memories of Adam Dunn walking to the plate in Cincinnati while “Sister Christian” was played over the sound system but in Japan the fans sing the intro song for each&
