28 for 28

Even though I’m posting this a day late, I’m going to go ahead and do it. I’m going to challenge myself to post every day for the month of February to try to get back into the habit of posting on this blog instead of only on my Tumblr. Twenty eight posts in twenty eight days.

I’m doing this for a couple of reasons. Mainly, I’ve really neglected this space. Only one post in three months time. Not good. The other reason is for seo (search engine optimization) reasons. I’ll elaborate on this in a full post, but I’m also using this as an experiment to test assumptions about the changing influence social has had on search results.

Predictions on how far I make it?

I guess I’ll start blogging again

After ten weeks in hiatus, I’ve returned to the blog. I’m making a renewed commitment to try to write something substantial on a fairly regular basis. For the random unrelated posts which consist of 90% videos with very little explanation, I’ve started a Tumblr.

The plan is to post on Tumblr 10-12 times a week and not have much of a filter. If I run across something half-way humorous or interesting it will get posted without exception. Occasionally I’ll remind all my Twitter followers that I share all this great stuff and post links there. I probably won’t ever post links to those things here. That way I can satisfy that inner urge to compulsively share everything with everyone around me.

We will see how this works out.

Today the Blog Turns 6

Strange to think that six years ago today this web site launched. Less surprising, six year old kids don’t have plain birthday cakes. Or at least they don’t put pictures of plain birthday cakes on the internet.

Six years ago in my dorm room I registered the domain “kylelibra.com.” I had to send some company in Utah a check because I didn’t have a credit card at the time. Six years later it is still here, or still sitting in the same data center out in Utah. I’ve haven’t given this space much attention over the past few months (years?). I’ve let traffic decline to next to nothing. There hasn’t really been a focus since I graduated from college. Some changes are definitely needed. Over the next few weeks I’ll be making some major ones, stay tuned.

Site working again

It looks like I’ve gotten everything up and running again. I’ll start posting regularly within the next few days.

Site having issues

I’m aware the site is having issues, something happened after applying a security patch and I haven’t figured out how to fix it yet.

Lack of Updates

I’ve been traveling and without reliable internet access lately. I’ll try to get back to regularly updating soon.

New Design

I never really liked the old theme. I’m going to try this one out for a bit. Leave some thoughts in the comments. If you’re getting any major errors, let me know that as well.

Most Popular Posts of 2009

I’ve been reading a lot of these “most popular posts of 2009″ rundowns, which got me thinking. Aren’t all most popular posts really only self-fulfilling prophecies? For example I have the something in the sidebar about the most popular posts over the past 60 days. Once something make it into the bottom spot it gets more traffic and moves further up the list, until it it is older than sixty days and is removed.

Regardless, here are the most popular posts of 2009 from my blog. Some were obvious attempts to game search engines and generate more traffic. The popularity rating is a combination of views, searches, comments, trackbacks, etc., that is automatically tracked for all posts. The percentage next to each post is the relative popularity rating out of a maximum of 100.

Happy Thanksgiving

Hiatus

I realize I haven’t posted anything for almost two weeks. Don’t worry, that is going to come to an end. I’ll resume regular posting on Monday morning. Until then, just watch the snake video repeatedly.
