MG Siegler has a great write up here. He explains how the studio owning the rights to The Bodyguard staring Whitney Houston has been pulling the rental rights from companies like Netflix in order to profit from the star’s death. This is why people hate Hollywood.
This is also why people hate the music industry. Sony got caught increasing the prices of her albums the day after her death.
This song isn’t all that bad, but the video is very cool. I have no idea what these French guys are rapping about, but the whole take on technology is great. Make sure you watch the ending.
Prince recently claimed the Internet is dead. As the joke goes, the Internet responded by saying, “who?”
While reading about the details of that bizarre comment I came across some clips from Kevin Smith’s college tour. A student asks about Smith’s time with Prince. Smith responds for about thirty minutes with a story about how Prince is more than a little bit nuts. Enjoy.
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. That said, I’m not really sure what to make of this video. It is well documented that I’m a big Lady Gaga fan. She is definitely talented, no denying that. But, is she also just copying Madonna? I’m not sure if this is a whole lot of coincidence, copying or some sort of clever tribute. I have the feeling you could go out and find another pop star with a ton of music videos and find a lot of these same things.
Interesting nonetheless. What do you think? Coincidence or copycat?
Now that over 1 Billion people have watched Lady Gaga’s videos, I felt like I should mention it here on the blog. Instead of posting the latest Lady Gaga video, I’ve posted this remix instead. Mainly because I’m pretty sure I’ve already forced everyone I know to watch the original version of Telephone.
If you haven’t seen OK Go’s new video, it is embedded below. OK Go is the band behind that famous treadmill music video for those of you who have forgotten. Rube Goldberg machines fascinate me. This is probably the most complex one I’ve ever seen.
While the video itself is pretty amazing, it’s even more incredible when you read this article about its making. Here’s the part I was wondering about:
The video was shot by a single Steadicam, but it took more than 60 takes, over the course of two days, to get it right. Many of those takes lasted about 30 seconds, Sadowsky said, getting no further than the spot in the video where the car tire rolls down a ramp.
You can also see a bunch of videos about the making of the video if reading isn’t your thing.
This is text to speech except with singing. I feel like I can sometimes hear some familiarity with some of the words, but I can never place any of them.
Unfortunately all of the copies of this video on YouTube have embedded video disabled. You can see Eminem’s video here. The song is meh, but the video is awesome. Here is a list of all the people it makes fun of:
Bret Michaels, Jessica Simpson, Kim Kardashian, Tony Romo, Guitar Hero, Amy Winehouse, Sarah Palin, Todd Palin, Britney Spears, Everyone from Star Trek, Lindsey Lohan, Samantha Ronson, Transformers, Ellen DeGeneres, Ellen’s gf, name?, John Mayer, Jennifer Aniston, Peewee Herman, Jessica Alba, Cash Warren, Elvis, and Napoleon Dynamite.
It is possible I missed a few. To be able to make fun of 20 celebrities, 1 movie, 1 tv show and 1 video game in four and a half minutes, and tie it all together, wow.
Discuss: What people / things does he make fun of that I missed?
