A few months ago I was finally introduced to the award winning board game Settlers of Catan. If you haven’t played it, or even heard of it I highly suggest looking into it. After a few days of bugging my roommates to play the game without much luck I turned to the internet. It turns out there is an online version of the game available. Check it out here. You have to make an account before you are allowed to play. So far I’ve only played against bots, and the results have not been so good. For an experience closest to the board game play “basic game” and “10 points.” You can click here to play the game online.
Update: If you haven’t played the game before the web site doesn’t offer much help. Through a little guess and test you can probably figure out the rules.
Just a quick update, I am typing this on my phone. You will find this game very timely. You take on the role of a Pirate captain off the coast of Somalia and are tasked with capturing ships and ransoming the crews. I didn’t play it enough to find out if the Navy Seals will ever intervene if you become too notorious.
Edit: Updating on the phone didn’t work like I thought it would, had to find a computer to edit.
The upcoming movie District 9 has an online game to promote the movie. You can check it out here. I was a little hesitant because the first level isn’t very exciting, but it definitely gets better as the levels go on. You can pick from the humans or the aliens, although the game doesn’t appear to be any different based on who you pick. I think it might be slightly easier if you pick the aliens.
Ever wanted to play Sudoku online? A friend pointed me towards this site recently. The difficulty can scale from very easy to very hard, which increases replayability. The only draw back is that when you put a number in it is red if it is inaccurate and black if it is correct. The allure to brute force your way through a puzzle can get really strong when you are stuck.
The new Johnny Depp / Christian Bale film Public Enemies comes out soon. As part of the marketing the studio has created a flash game based on the activities of John Dillinger. Bank Raids is a fun and addictive little game. Post high scores in the comments.
I was very hesitant to make this post. Spymaster is certainly a time sink worthy of being a Monday morning distraction, but promoting it also runs the risk of someone polluting my twitter stream with nonsense. You’ve been warned, if you abuse this game, I’ll stop following you.
That said, you are probably asking, what is Spymaster? The official web site lists it as “An action game for twitter.” It is a game involving the world of espionage which has you joining either the American CIA, the British MI6 or the Russian FSB. If you decide to integrate the game with twitter you will get bonuses, but might annoy your friends.
The game has you complete missions, assassinate other agents and get money to buy more stuff. You can play the game here. They just recently opened it up from the closed beta and are going to be implementing a lot of changes over the next few months, or so I’ve read. After you start to get addicted, check out this very complete guide to make sure you are doing as much as you can to reach level 30.
Lemonade World brings back memories from elementary school and playing the always classic lemonade stand game. This one becomes addicting because you are trying to make a certain amount of money in 30 days and not just as much as possible. My best is ending with around $90.
From the moment the main Geek Chart page loads it takes about 30 seconds to register and put in your information. Once you set it up it automatically updates and you really never need to login ever again. You can view my extended chart here. I was surprised by the results, as I am sure you will also be.
My hope to make this post a true distraction is for everyone to post their chart in the comments. Check back throughout the day and see where other readers share content on the web.
