Best (Delta Sig) Wedding Engagement Ever?

Normally I wouldn’t care about any sort of wedding engagement at all, if that is even what you call it. Best “asking someone to marry you ever?” Whatever.

But this one is different. First, it features a man dressed as Evel Knievel. Second, the announcer has to mention that although he won the contest last year, they couldn’t let him officially participate this year because he overslept. Finally, he is a member of Delta Sigma Phi and I know him. To be clear, by “know him” I mean I’ve e-mailed and spoken on the phone with him.

Turns out Skate April (he insists that people call him Skate, although I don’t think it is his legal name) worked for Delta Sigma Phi after college. He traveled the country visiting chapters. He worked with my current boss who has told me he remembers Skate perfected a way to cook beans in a can on his engine block while driving so he could save time and money. I’m not sure if that is actually true, but he insists it is.

Headquarters recently got back in touch with Skate and asked him to volunteer out in Utah where he lives with the woman from the video. He is the President of the Northern Utah Alumni Association and is building a group of alumni to help support a future expansion at the University of Utah. He and my boss were catching up on what they had been up to since they had worked together and the topic of Skate’s engagement came up. Unlike the beans story there is video of this and it went out in a mass e-mail from which I figured I had to share further. Enjoy.

Hardcore Delta Sig

Meet Julian (@jleedsp on twitter) and his hardcore Delta Sig tattoo. I’m pretty sure this hurt a lot. Every time he tweets all I can think of is how much getting this tattoo probably hurt. (this is his twitter icon)

Delta Sigma Phi Convention Is Over, Regular Updates Returning Soon

Delta Sigma Phi’s 59th Biennial Convention ended this weekend in St. Louis. The staff spent the day in St. Louis yesterday to recuperate. We packed all our stuff up today before making the drive back. This week I’ll post a few behind the scenes photos and videos later this week. If you are interested in some of Bruce Hammond’s great blog posts recapping Convention, you can view them here. Regular updates will continue starting tomorrow.

This post is a collection of all of the known members of Delta Sigma Phi on Twitter. Updates made are listed at the bottom of the page. If you would like to be added to the page leave a note in the comments. I will try to keep this as up to date as possible. You should add yourself to the We Follow directory, once enough people are utilizing that directory I won’t have to update this page as often. I highly recommend you follow me on twitter @kylelibra, you will get added to the list more quickly that way.

Worst Wikipedia Entry Ever

Admittedly this is probably not the worst entry ever, but it is pretty bad. By bad I mean totally unnecessary. This can be found near the bottom of this page.

Update: Entry has since been fixed.

The Delta Sig Domination Continues

The boys at Beta Mu picked up 24 pledges this afternoon. This makes me very happy. When I think about the fraternity 24/7 because it is literally my job, it is tough not be involved with my own chapter. It is great to see that they are still doing well. Below is a picture of the Senior entrance with ‘Gate driving. I guess this partly explains Transy being #4 on this list.

Ghost Ride It

My Life as a Delta Sig Regional Director

A lot of people ask me what I do now that I have graduated. For those of you who are not aware, I work as a Regional Director for Delta Sigma Phi fraternity based out of Indianapolis. I travel about 75% of the time to different chapters around the country and try to help them as best I can. Technically I am responsible for “providing training in fraternity operations and risk management to the organization’s chapters and colonies in specific regions of the country.” You can view my official profile here. For those of you who know me well, you will probably find it funny.

Below is a map of the chapters I have in my regions. (click to enlarge)

Follow the man, the myth, the legend, Steve Banfield on Twitter

For those of you who are not aware, Steve Banfield, is an alumnus of the Beta Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Phi. He donated a large sum of money to get a scholarship fund started for the chapter to help us keep our grades as high as possible. Being a technologically savvy person, he is on Twitter. Recently he sent out a tweet asking who wanted to be followers number 599 and 600. I will admit that I am jealous he has so many followers, but if there are any Delta Sigs out there who want to know what he is up to, subscribe to his tweets here. I’m guessing he will break the 600 mark fairly quickly.

The Executive Director’s Office

“The Executive Director’s Office” is the titled I made up for this video. Before watching, it requires some serious explanation to maximize the hilarious context.

Two weeks ago we all went down to a conference in Miami called FEA or Fraternity Executives Association. I had to leave early to go to a wedding so I missed the closing banquet. Apparently a lot of the organizations made videos thanking their executive directors. Below is the video we submitted. I am told that the audience found it very funny. If you are totally lost, it was supposed to be a spoof of this. I should also note that I didn’t find out about this until yesterday.
