The Complete Story of How I Won a Free Ford Fiesta (for 6 months)
This post serves as a lengthy explanation of all I know or at least all I am allowed to divulge at this point. If there are any further questions, or things I forgot to address, mention them in the comments and I will address them.
How it all started
I saw this article in Wired Magazine. It explained that Ford was running a contest to give away 100 Ford Fiestas. The were looking for people who had “a strong presence on the web, an ability to craft a compelling story through video, and a hunger for adventure.” Easy enough I thought. I have a good chance considering that describes me really well. The article goes on to explain that:
Brand agents will be responsible for following missions that, according to Ford, will “take them to new places, to meet new people and to experience new things in their Fiesta,” all of which will be broadcast on the internet.
Essentially Ford is giving away 100 cars as part of a giant marketing campaign to prove that this is actually a really good vehicle. I don’t speak German, but I’m told this site says that the car is very popular in Europe.
Video
This is the video entry I submitted. It just recently broke 100 views, luckily they picked people based on the quality of the video and not the quantity of views.
Interview / Selection Process
I signed a non-disclosure agreement that forbids me from talking about a lot of things, interview included. Don’t worry, it wasn’t that interesting. One cool thing I can talk about it that I got to select from a variety of different colors. Magenta, Silver, Black and Green were among the options. I also got the select decals. There were nine options for decals and each had a couple of different color possibilities. You could also pick from a few different colors for each decal. Below are pictures of some of the more interesting ones.
What exactly did I win?
I will received a prototype of the 2011 Ford Fiesta. The specific one I am getting a “squeeze lime green” four door hatch back with the “dot” decal pattern in black. I’m told it has a 1.6-liter Ti-VCT (Twin Intake Variable Cam Timing) gas engine, but if you want more specific details, they can be found here.
In addition to the car, I also will also get a Sony HD Camcorder, driving shoes and other not yet explained ford fiesta merchandise and apparel. I get to keep everything except the car.
When do I get the car?
The weekend of April 25-26 I will take a bus to Chicago to pick up the car. I had the option to fly, but went with this instead because it will be less inconvenient. That weekend will be an orientation to explain a lot more details. Afterward I will drive it back to Indianapolis. I get to keep it until November 30, 2009.
What do I do?
I am an agent and go on missions. I don’t know much more than this. Apparently they will send us on adventures and ask us to make videos in return. Sounds like a great deal to me.
Is this a joke?
Nope, I waited until today to post about it to make sure there was no confusion. The contest web site can be found here. This is where all of the “agents” will be uploading content.

Wow, Kyle! That is awesome! Congratulations on your big win. I knew the video was good, but apparently it was top notch. Enjoy your ride.
Nice!
April 2. 2009
I thought you were just lucky, but it looks like you are really talented and deserved to win! Way to go! tell us more about the missions.
Great job, I have to hand it to you just for taking the chance to enter. You really thought it through and submitted a great video that showcased your personality and abilities.
By the way the link to your video doesn’t work or maybe its just me.
Can I drive your old car?
If you repair it, sure.
the camera that you get to keep should be a nice eh.
You should make a video doing jumps. Jump some school buses.
I’ll keep that in mind…
So…Grant should get your old car and then maybe I could have my car back for the summer?
I don’t think so.
Drive it until the wheels come off
I think Grant and Brittany should get new Corvettes or BMW’s to test drive while your on missions around the country.

That’s something I haven’t seen in a long time. What happens to them is what I would expect to happen to a car if you tried to do that.
Way to go, Kyle! You did a great job on the video, and it really paid off! What kind of mileage will you get in the new car?
This article says it gets 40+ mpg: http://digg.com/d1o1Wl
Ford sucks, buy a honda.
I have a toenail on the end of my penis and I breastfeed John Madden.
I see you have returned Bill…
Kyle..congrats on being a selected Fiesta Agent. Enjoyed your video. I’m on the Ford Credit product launch team supporting Fiesta and look forward to getting updates and what’s cool.
As for Bill…he must have a small penis if he breastfed J. Madden.
